BSE Groups: Santa Fe, NM

It’s an honor to have Emma Simmons running Becoming Safely Embodied Skills groups in Santa Fe, NM twice a year for the past couple years.  Emma recently wrote that, “I am pleased to see consistent shifts in group members particularly in the realm of self-acceptance, using the tools to modulate arousal & increased sense of competence.”

12-week skills group for women in the Santa Fe area

Experience your body as a place of rest, reflection, wisdom and creativity!

Trauma can keep us in a state of survival, even when our minds know we are no longer threatened. Triggered by daily life incidences, old survival responses can leave us feeling like our bodies betray us rather than protect us.

Using the BSE skills you’ll redevelop a sense of trust in your body, mind and spirit. These skills will be presented as small and achievable steps, keeping the experience grounding and centering, rather than overwhelming. You get to refine these tools as you discover what works uniquely for you.

You will learn skills to:

•Find safety in the present moment.

•Practice mindful observation.

•Cultivate a sense of belonging.

•Ground yourself to reduce overwhelm.

•Identify thoughts, feelings, and body sensations.

•Develop an empowered vision for your life.

This group will start Sept 22nd  and run until Dec 8th 2011 /  Thursdays 6pm -7:30pm  /   $480 + tax (weekly payment ok)

This group focuses on creating safety, ease, calm and insight in the body and mind rather than talking about the events that caused the pain.  I offer simple, practical tools for working with overwhelming, traumatic or difficult responses.

The foundation of the work is developing an internal voice that is kind and understanding. This can be challenging if we have received messages that tell us we are not good enough.

The second part beginning to listen, feel and understand  what your body is telling you.

You may ask ‘Why would I want to come back into my body if I feel fear or anxiety?’

When we shut down our connection to pain & fear, we also lose touch feelings such as pleasure, love, joy. It’s like turning down a dimmer switch and everything, pain & joy, get diminished.

We also lose touch with the inner guide that often comes through our bodies and emotional responses.

In this work, my intention is to offer ways to reconnect with our bodies wisdom in a way that is manageable, safe, with a sense of having some control and boundaries.

Our minds are important allies in this journey. I invite you to engage the mind in a different way than it is used to. Instead of beating you up or worrying incessantly or denying how you feel, I invite your mind to be a witness, an observer to what is happening as a way to give you clear information about both the past and present. It can helps us learn to distinguish what are old fears and what we might need to do to feel safer, more at home in ourselves, more connected.

Because this group is a closed group (no newcomers after it begins), it is ideal for building trust, safety and a supportive environment. In my experience, this group helps reduce shame, deepens acceptance and a greater sense of calmness, ease, and safety.

I will meet with everyone prior to the group to make sure this is an appropriate and satisfying experience. It also gives you an opportunity to ask questions, meet me and see if this feels right for you.

Will run March & Sept each year.
