Random Acts of Culture

Random Acts of Culture

Thank God for the beauty in the world.  I thank God for all of you and for the generosity that is inherent in all of you.  Special thanks to Barbara Mandlekorn Coleman for sending this along.

On Saturday, October 30, 2010, the Opera Company of Philadelphia assembled singers do another Knight Foundation “Random Acts of Culture” this time at Macy’s (formerly the Wanamaker store) in Philadelphia. The opera chorus and other singers from throughout the community infiltrated the store incognito, and then burst into the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s “Messiah” to the delight of surprised shoppers (many of whom joined in too).

The video begins with Wanamaker’s organ — the largest pipe organ in the world — sounding “Glory to Egypt and Isis” from Aida (undoubtedly a secret clue to cue up the opera chorus) then switches to Handel’s Messiah.  (I think the video will bring you to tears… enjoy, and God bless us, everyone!)

Thank you, Knight Arts  for having the ingenuity to fund such an outlandish and heart warming project.
