10 Nov From Reactive to Creative Parenting – a workshop for parents
Paul Neustadt will give you concrete, loving ways to shift your parenting styles. A long time friend and colleague I respect his approach and his commitment to people.
Parenting, like intimate partnership, often triggers an intense or uncomfortable reactivity in us that can make us feel out of control or ashamed of the way we have acted.
When we are able to recognize the parts of us that have been reactive and approach them with compassion and curiosity, we learn the story behind their actions, and it begins to make sense. The parts of us that get triggered as parents are not just reacting to the present. They are holding on to painful wounds from the past.
When we witness their story, we can then help them let go of the burdens and extreme strategies they have taken on. Freed from the past, these parts turn out to have important lessons and wisdom to
share with us, and they help us to access clarity, creativity, confidence and compassion as parents.
This workshop is for parents and for people who work with parents. It will include discussion of how parents can learn to do this inner work and exercises designed to give participants an experience of the initial steps. Guidelines for doing this work on your own will be provided.
