29 Dec Emotional Freedom Techniques: Energy Psychology between sessions
It’s become important to me that our community of healing be larger than just one person, just one approach. With that in mind I will be posting blogs from others who I feel might serve you in your healing. Caitlin Williams is one of the people who is passionate about her work and has seen tremendous results. One caveat I add to this, as well as anything I post, is that there is no guaranteed method, no approach that will be the “magic bullet” and cure you of whatever ails you. There are methods that can help and can support you, especially in conjunction with solid psychotherapy and a balanced life.
Guest blogger: Caitlin Williams, LMHC, M.ED wrote the following blog. Caitlin found EFT to be so helpful she teaches EFT to mental health practitioners
I discovered Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) over 10 years ago and am happily and enthusiastically sharing it with anyone who will listen. EFT is an Energy Psychology that teaches us how to affect our emotional states by balancing the energy fields in our bodies by tapping on or stimulating specific points on your skin(acupuncture points.) Each tap sends electrochemical signals directly to your brain. When you tap while holding your mind on a situation that triggers an un-wanted emotional response you can often shift your brain’s response to that situation.
One of the benefits of EFT is it can be used in a session or between sessions to process and self regulate stressful, triggering situations. My clients regularly come to their session with stories of how they used the technique to help them avoid an argument with a friend or family member, calm nerves in a work situation and/or dissolve fear that might prevent them from attending an event.
