20 Feb Inspiration comes where you least expect it
Inspiration comes in many interesting forms. Today it came to me through the magazine Fast Company. I actually have the book the excerpt is from, Switch: How to Change Things When Change is Hard by Chip Heath and Dan Heath. As it is at times, I didn’t remember reading it in the book – but it came out strong in the article. Here it is:
“Imagine a world where, every single time you flipped a light switch and the room lit up, you experienced a rush of gratitude.”
I love that. Imagine that. Really. Take a moment and imagine what that would be like. You turn on a light switch and you become awash with amazement and gratitude.
It reminded me of a time — which I still think I might have made up even though I went through it numberous times one day. One day I arrived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with my bad wheeling behind me. I went out the sliding glass doors and I heard, “You look beautiful today.”
What? I looked around. “That outfit really complements you.”
My head is craning all over. No one I knew. No one looking at me. Where was this coming from? The compliments kept flowing. I realized this was a pre-recorded message that was piped over the sound system, activated when people went in and out of the doors. I went in and out just to hear the positive messages!
What if we changed the tapes in our head from the usual negative ones and instead created some more positive ones. What would you want your new messages to be?
